About This Course s-mod-info
Falls have emerged as the leading cause of fatalities in the construction industry, accounting for about one-third of all industry-related deaths. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported a significant 45% rise in fatal falls to a lower level in private construction, increasing from 255 in 2011 to 370 in 2016. In 2018, there were 338 fatal falls in construction out of a total of 1,008 fatalities. Addressing the complexity of fall incidents, OSHA tackles both human and equipment-related factors in its fall protection standard to ensure the safety of workers.
This training is designed to improve the understanding of both workers and employers regarding the requirements and underlying reasons for the Fall Protection in Construction Standard. It is a crucial course for obtaining a New York City Site Safety Training Card.
This training is at an AWARENESS LEVEL only and does not provide other qualifications or authorizations. Employers are responsible for training workers in controlling fall hazards associated with their tasks, emphasizing the proper use, limitations, and maintenance of fall-hazard controls, including equipment such as personal fall arrest systems, retractable lifelines, vertical lifelines, scaffolds, and ladders.
NOTE: New York City Local Law 196 (LL196) of 2017 specifies that, as part of the course requirements for 8-Hour Fall Prevention, trainees demonstrate wearing generic fall protection equipment.
