Who Should Take the 40-Hour EM 385-1-1 Training?
This training is tailored for managers, supervisors, contractors, and construction workers engaged in military contracts, mandated to comply with USACE EM 385-1-1 laws and standards.
Which EM 385-1-1 Training Course Do I Need?
While 40-hour EM 385-1-1 USACE Safety & Health training is the mandatory initial course for SSHOs, other workers on EM 385-1-1 regulated sites can take slightly shorter courses.
Supervisors, crew leaders, or managers who are not SSHOs (collectively referred to as Collateral Duty Safety Officers or CDSOs) can satisfy their initial training requirements with the 24-hour EM 385 course. For non-supervisory employees, the 16-hour course is sufficient.
Once an SSHO has completed their initial 40-hour EM 385-1-1 training, they’re required to stay current by taking the 8-hour EM 385 refresher course at least once a year.
